Running on the Spectrum

Zoomerang Kids Running Program
Fleet Feet Sports is proud to partner with Autism Families CONNECTicut to host Running on the Spectrum, a special version of Fleet Feet’s popular Zoomerang kids running program, for children and teens on the autism spectrum. This non-competitive “open track” program is open to all ages. It gives individuals on the spectrum (as well as their siblings and parents) the opportunity to experience running in a fun, friendly atmosphere where the motto is “Will run for worms” (gummy worms, that is!).

Zoomerangs: Running on the Spectrum is a great place for individuals to run safely and correctly, using good form, make friends and get stronger/build endurance so they can perform better in other sports (or rock the mile in gym class). Most of all, our goal is to empower kids and teens to accomplish their goals and instill in them a lifelong love of running. It’s also a great opportunity for mom and dad to spend quality time with your kids – and get in shape too!

In addition to experienced Fleet Feet running coaches, AFC will have a therapist on-site and involved with the program, as well as volunteers.

After a group warm-up (stretches, form drills and running games), kids and teens will be encouraged to run at their own pace and run as many laps as they feel comfortable running.

The program cost is usually $45 per child – but Autism Families CONNECTicut is generously subsidizing the program so the fee will only be $25/child. Siblings also encouraged to register! This is a fun family event! Each registered child will receive a Zoomerang Team t-shirt, gummy-worms and “lap rewards”.
